My Teaching Philosophy.

In my continuation of developing a well-rounded and engaging string curriculum, from beginner through advanced, my teaching philosophy focuses on collaboration with each student so I can best foster their individual growth and musical potential. I recognize that every student possesses different strengths, interests, and goals. Therefore, I am committed to creating a unique and enriching path that suits their needs.

I believe that a strong understanding of technique and musical ideas serve as the ground for all future musical endeavors. By prioritizing the development of fundamental skills such as posture, bowing technique, intonation, and rhythm, I aim to equip students with the necessary tools to express themselves confidently and fluently on their instrument.

To achieve this, I utilize a wide range of teaching materials and methodologies. This includes but is not limited to, method/scale books, traditional works, popular music, and duets. Integrating a variety of musical genres and repertoire into the curriculum ensures that students remain engaged and motivated in their musical practice.

While technical proficiency is vital to learning a string instrument, I believe music education serves a larger purpose. The process of learning an instrument offers a unique opportunity for students to develop essential life skills such as discipline, self-expression, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Music is a powerful way to discover one’s personal expression and ability to connect with others. In my studio, students can explore a wide range of repertoire as they are encouraged to develop their own distinct artistic identity. Whether through performing classical masterpieces, collaborating with peers in chamber music ensembles, or even learning to write their own piece, students will feel empowered to express themselves authentically and creatively through music.

My role as a teacher is not only to impart knowledge and skills but also to inspire a love of learning and a commitment to excellence in my students. By fostering a supportive and nurturing learning environment, my purpose is to instill in my students a passion for music that will endure long beyond their time in the studio.
